Most programs run all three across the roster — crewneck as the workhorse, hoodies for cold-weather travel and outdoor venues.

Three wrestling-specific reasons. First, headgear: at weigh-in and during pre-match warmup, the hood interferes with putting the headgear on and off — the chinstrap catches on the hood drawcord, the hood lifts when the headgear settles, and the back-of-neck strap doesn't seat cleanly. A crewneck stays flat at the collar so the headgear seats correctly. Second, layering: when the program runs the warmup jacket over the sideline top for a coordinated venue arrival look, the crewneck disappears cleanly under the jacket collar — a hood bunches up and breaks the line. Third, the heat profile: wrestlers cycle through hot warmup sequences then cool down between matches — a crewneck handles that cycle without trapping heat at the head/neck the way a hood does. Hoodies have their place (cold outdoor venues, travel days) but the crewneck is the workhorse sideline layer for the typical wrestling weekend.

It depends on the fabric blend, and this is the question to ask before ordering custom fleece anywhere. Sublimation dye-fuses onto polyester fibers only — it doesn't bond to cotton. On a heavy-cotton 80/20 blend (the default for cheap stock blanks), sublimated graphics print weak, look washed-out, and fade further with every wash because most of the fabric isn't holding the dye.
