The singlet is the competition garment only — it wrestles, then comes off between matches. Programs that cross-train BJJ or no-gi typically run fight shorts as the daily mat-room short; programs focused only on folkstyle / freestyle wrestling lean on compression + warmup pants instead.

Wrestling fight shorts run a mid-thigh inseam — typically 7-9 inches — which sits above the knee for full hip-extension and shot-setup mobility without the short riding up during ground work. The shorter cut is the difference between a fight short and a board short: board shorts are 9-11 inches and knee-length (cross-environment wear); fight shorts are 7-9 inches and stop at mid-thigh (mat-room grappling).
