Compression shorts (this product) are the skin-tight 4-way stretch poly-spandex base layer worn UNDER the singlet during competition for chafe prevention and opponent grip-resistance — the singlet sits over the compression short, so the compression provides modesty + reduces friction at the inseam during ground work. Compression shorts also work as a standalone short for weigh-ins, warmup runs, and pre-match drill rotations when the singlet isn't on yet. Board shorts are the MMA-style knee-length cut with Velcro closure and woven body — daily training short for open mat, strength training, team travel, off-mat wear. Fight shorts are the traditional shorter cut for BJJ / grappling drills. The singlet is the competition garment only — it wrestles, then comes off between matches. Most programs run compression as the under-singlet base layer + weigh-in short, the singlet for matches, and board shorts for everything else.

Wrestling compression shorts run a mid-thigh inseam — typically 5-7 inches for the standard full-compression cut, which keeps the short tight and short enough to disappear cleanly under the singlet's hip seam without any fabric peeking out at the leg opening. Some wrestlers prefer a slightly longer 7-9 inch performance cut for extra thigh coverage during warmup runs or when the compression is worn standalone at weigh-in. The 5-7 inch cut is the default for the under-singlet base layer; the 7-9 inch is available on request during the design phase at no extra cost. Either cut sits well above the knee — compression shorts are not knee-length like board shorts.

Tackle twill cracks at the stitch lines on stretch knit and adds bulk that interferes with the singlet fit when worn as a base layer. Embroidery puckers on the moving fabric and creates abrasion points at skin-contact areas. Screen printing chips off on heavy 4-way stretch through repeated wash cycles — fine for a season or two on woven garments, but not for compression knit that stretches with every leg movement. Dye-fused sublimation builds the team colorway, school name, and athlete number permanently into the fabric with zero raised finish — sits flat against the skin, no bulk under the singlet, no opponent grip points.
