Quick Answer

A women’s wrestling singlet is cut on a women’s pattern. It has more chest coverage and a different hip to waist ratio than a men’s singlet sized down. Under NFHS high school rules a female wrestler may wear a one piece singlet or a two piece uniform. The two piece is compression shorts and a form fitted compression shirt. She must wear a sports bra that completely covers the breasts. A compression shirt under a singlet is permitted, not required. At USA Wrestling freestyle and Greco regional and national championships, female wrestlers in every age division must wear a women’s cut singlet. Girls high school wrestling grew from 31,654 participants in 2021 to 22 to 88,771 in 2025 to 26 on the NFHS survey. Hamco’s published price for a custom sublimated singlet, women’s cut included, is $54.99 at 1 to 24 pieces and $46.99 at 101 or more. Names, numbers, logo, and shipping are included.

Girls wrestling is no longer a handful of athletes on a boys’ roster. The NFHS survey counted 88,771 girls in high school wrestling in 2025 to 26, up from 31,654 in 2021 to 22[1]. Forty state associations now run a girls state championship[1]. This guide covers what a female wrestling singlet is, which rules apply at each level, and the one piece or two piece decision. It also covers sizing on a women’s chart and what a girls or women’s team pays in 2026. Every Hamco cut mentioned is on our custom wrestling singlets page, and every Hamco price comes from a product page you can open.

Two notes before the rules. First, this is the girls and women’s guide. For kids’ clubs under 14U and the parent’s checklist, read our youth wrestling singlets guide. Second, we sell singlets, so the process and prices marked as ours come from our pages. Competitor prices come from their published pages and carry no follow links. The rules come from the NFHS, USA Wrestling, and the NCAA record, each linked where it appears.

What Makes a Women’s Wrestling Singlet Different?

Three things: the pattern, the coverage, and the rules that come with it. A women’s cut singlet is patterned for a female athlete from the start. The chest cut, the hip to waist ratio, and the shoulder room are drawn for women’s proportions, not a unisex singlet sized down[10]. Coverage follows. The high cut reaches toward the underarms and covers more of the chest. It is more popular among female wrestlers because the NFHS uniform rule requires full breast coverage[17]. And the rules add a garment. Under NFHS rules a female contestant in a one piece singlet must wear a sports bra. It must completely cover the breasts and minimize the risk of exposure[6]. USA Wrestling requires a properly fitting sports bra under the singlet and prohibits underwire bras[7].

Anyone searching for a womens wrestling singlet online will find the practical difference is a size chart. On our custom wrestling team singlets the women’s chart runs from XS (30 to 32 inch chest) to 4XL (54 to 59 inches)[9]. Waist and hip ranges are listed for every size[9]. The men’s chart on the same page starts at a 32 to 34 inch chest and sits differently at the hip[9]. At the same chest size, our women’s chart lists a larger hip than the men’s chart. A women’s team ordered off the men’s chart risks a singlet that is tight at the hip and loose at the chest. Order off the women’s chart, and if a wrestler sits between sizes, custom sizing is available[9].

Why the 2026 to 27 Season Is Different for Girls Wrestling

The chart shows the demand behind women’s cuts. Girls high school wrestling grew in every season since the pandemic. The NFHS survey recorded 49,127 girls in 2022 to 23, a 55 percent jump, with 36 states running a girls championship[4]. It reached 64,257 in 2023 to 24, up 102 percent from 2021 to 22[3]. It topped 74,000 in 2024 to 25 and added nearly 1,000 schools with a girls program[2]. In 2025 to 26 it rose 19.9 percent to 88,771, with 8,853 schools sponsoring the sport[1]. Every state now reports participation and 40 state associations hold a championship[1].

College moved too. The first NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championships were held March 6 and 7, 2026 in Coralville, Iowa[8]. It was a single unified field open to programs from Division I, II, and III. Fifty three teams were represented and 180 wrestlers qualified through six regionals[8]. McKendree won the team title over Iowa[8]. For a high school girl that is a real recruiting path. For a coach it means the women’s cut singlet is the standard from middle school through college, not a special order.

What Are the Singlet Rules for Girls and Women’s Wrestling?

Three rule books, three answers for girls wrestling singlets. The table lays them out by level. Read the row for the level your team wrestles, and check your state association for any supplemental rule.

Verified September 29, 2026 against the USA Wrestling Rule Book (2027 edition) and two NFHS pages. Those are the two piece uniform release and the 2022 to 23 rules changes. The college row uses the Wikipedia record of the 2026 NCAA championships. The NCAA uniform rule itself was not fetched, so that row states only what the championship record supports.

One NFHS clarification matters more than any other line in that table. In 2022 to 23 the rules committee added a note. Officials had been telling female contestants that all females must wear a compression shirt under the singlet. The rule says a compression shirt under a one piece singlet is permitted but not required for female contestants. The exception is when it is needed to ensure complete coverage[6]. A girl in a properly fitted women’s cut singlet with a sports bra is legal. If an official says otherwise, the rule book is on her side. For the general rules on cuts, colors, and what goes underneath, our wrestling singlet guide covers every level in one place.

One Piece Singlet or Two Piece Uniform: Which Should a Girls Team Order?

Girls were a big part of why the two piece option exists. When the NFHS approved the alternate uniform for the 2017 to 18 season, the committee said it hoped to increase boys and girls participation[5]. The release specifically notes new undergarment language for female contestants[5]. The two piece is compression shorts or shorts designed for wrestling with a minimum 4 inch inseam that does not extend below the knee. The top is a form fitted compression shirt that does not cover the elbow and has a 3 inch tail. Both pieces are school issued[5]. It is legal in USA Wrestling folkstyle too[7]. It is not legal at USA Wrestling freestyle and Greco regional and national championships, where a women’s cut singlet is required[7].

Our recommendation, and it is ours, not a rule: order singlets for the team and two piece sets for the wrestlers who ask. Both come from the same colorway files, so the team looks like one team on the mat. The two piece top is our short sleeve compression shirt, built for two piece competition. It is produced on the same run as the singlets so the colors match[11]. Pair it with the wrestling compression shorts, which run youth through adult at one flat rate[12]. A girls program that orders 12 singlets and 4 two piece sets pays the 1 to 24 tier on each product. The whole women’s wrestling uniform order ships together with no minimum.

How Do You Size a Girls Wrestling Singlet?

By chest measurement on a women’s chart, not by age and not by the boys’ chart. The table below is our women’s chart. Measure the chest at the fullest point over a sports bra, the waist at the narrowest point, and the hip at the fullest point. Pick the size whose chest range holds the number today. Do not size up for growth. A loose singlet gives an opponent fabric to grip, and a loose women’s singlet fails the coverage test at the chest.

Hamco women’s singlet size chart from the custom wrestling team singlets page, September 29, 2026. The page notes sizes may vary by style and custom sizing is available. A youth girls wrestling singlet for a wrestler under a 30 inch chest is sized on the youth chart on the same page. That chart runs YS 26 to 28 inches through YXL 35 to 37 inches.

Weight class does not set the size. Two wrestlers in different weight classes can fall in the same chest size. Our wrestling weight classes guide explains where a girl will wrestle at each level. The roster, not the size list, should come from it. For comparison, Matman sizes its custom singlet by body weight, with a women’s chart that starts at 5XS for 30 to 40 pounds[16]. Both systems work. Mixing them on one order does not.

How Much Do Women’s Wrestling Singlets Cost in 2026?

Published prices for a women’s cut, custom sublimated, from the three makers whose pages state a women’s option. Our team singlet is $54.99 at 1 to 24 and $52.99 at 25 to 50. It is $49.99 at 51 to 100 and $46.99 at 101 or more[9]. Names, numbers, team logo, a 12 hour mockup, and shipping are included, with no minimum[9]. Women’s cuts and two piece options carry the same flat pricing as men’s cuts[10]. Matman’s custom online singlet is $76.00 flat in a standard cut for men’s and women’s, from one piece[16]. All sales on its custom products are final[16]. Cliff Keen’s women’s custom sublimated singlets run $87.50 for the Women’s Racerback, Wide Back, and UWW Cut[15]. The Women’s Mesh Back is $97.00 and the Women’s CK Deluxe is $98.50[15]. Cliff Keen’s stock women’s options are the Racerback at $59.50 and the USA Camo Women’s T back at $75.00. Its Women’s Reversal reversible singlet is $94.00[14].

Verified September 29, 2026 against each linked page. Hamco small order prices are the 1 to 24 tier from the product page tables. Cliff Keen’s Design Lab page states a 6 piece minimum on most custom products (source 18). Fill ins cost 50 percent more for 2 to 5 pieces and 100 percent more for 1.

The math for a 14 wrestler girls team ordering singlets. Hamco: 14 × $54.99 = $769.86 delivered[9]. Matman: 14 × $76.00 = $1,064.00 before shipping[16]. Cliff Keen Women’s Racerback: 14 × $87.50 = $1,225.00[15]. Add four two piece sets from us for the wrestlers who want them. That is 4 × $87.98 = $351.92, still at the 1 to 24 tier[11]. Fabric is the other half of the price. Our competition singlet is a poly spandex compression knit at 220 to 240 GSM, tested to stay opaque at full stretch[10]. In our view, opacity matters most on a wrestling singlet for women. Our singlet materials guide compares the knits if you are weighing a cheaper stock option.

Girls Wrestling Gear Checklist Beyond the Singlet

Women’s wrestling gear is the singlet plus four things. Three are required by rule at one level or another, and the fourth is strongly recommended.

Sports bra: required under a one piece singlet and under a compression shirt by NFHS, and under the singlet by USA Wrestling. No underwire at USA Wrestling events. Buy two; one is always in the wash.

Wrestling shoes: required at USA Wrestling events, with firm ankle support and secured laces. There is no women’s rule here, only a fit one, so try them on with the socks she will wrestle in.

Headgear: recommended but not required at USA Wrestling events for all age groups. Check the NFHS rule book for a high school team.

Compression shorts or briefs under a singlet: NFHS requires an undergarment that completely covers the buttocks and groin. That applies under a singlet and at weigh ins. In freestyle and Greco nothing may show below the singlet leg.

Wash the singlet after every session, not every weekend. Our guide on how to wash a wrestling singlet covers the routine that gets it through a season. Comparing wrestling singlets for girls beyond these three brands? The best wrestling singlets guide covers Takedown and Under Armour as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do girls have to wear a compression shirt under a wrestling singlet?

Not under NFHS rules. A compression shirt under a one piece singlet is permitted but not required for female contestants unless it is needed to ensure complete coverage. A sports bra that completely covers the breasts is required.

Can a girl wrestle in a two piece uniform instead of a singlet?

Yes in NFHS high school wrestling and USA Wrestling folkstyle. The two piece is school issued compression shorts with a 4 inch minimum inseam. The top is a form fitted compression shirt with a 3 inch tail. It is not allowed at USA Wrestling freestyle and Greco regional and national championships, where a women’s cut singlet is required.

What is the difference between a women’s and a men’s wrestling singlet?

The pattern. A women’s cut is drawn for women’s proportions at the chest, waist, hip, and shoulder rather than a men’s singlet sized down. It is sized on a women’s chart; Hamco’s runs XS at a 30 to 32 inch chest through 4XL at 54 to 59 inches.
