When is high school volleyball season? Each state association sets its own dates. In the states we checked (October 31, 2026), girls’ practice opens in late July or early August, and state finals run from late October to mid-November. Boys play in the spring in Ohio, North Carolina and Florida, and in the fall in South Carolina. Approve your Hamco Sports uniform design at least 33 days before your first match.

When Does High School Volleyball Start and End?
Your state association sets the high school volleyball season, not a national body. The NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) writes the high school volleyball rules book (checked October 31, 2026), and our guide to volleyball uniform rules covers what it says about uniforms. Each state posts its own season dates.
In four of the five states we checked (October 31, 2026), girls’ state finals fall between October 29 and November 14. In the same four, practice opens between July 27 and August 1. Florida and Georgia girls started practice on July 27, 2026. Ohio coaching began August 1, and the OHSAA set its state tournament for November 12 to 14.
Club volleyball runs on its own calendar, outside the school season. Our guide to club volleyball covers that side. College is different again: women play in the fall, with the 2026 NCAA Division I championship on December 17 and 20, and men play in the spring (both checked October 31, 2026).
High School Volleyball Season Dates by State
The table lists each state association’s own dates, checked October 31, 2026. Girls’ dates are for the 2026 season, the latest one we found posted for the four states that list them. Ohio’s 2027 girls’ season begins August 16 (OHSAA calendar).

Is Boys’ Volleyball a Fall or Spring Sport?
Boys’ high school volleyball is a spring sport in Ohio, North Carolina and Florida, with first matches in late February or March. South Carolina is the exception in our table. Its boys play in the fall: the SCHSL set its 2026 boys’ state championships for October 31 (checked October 31, 2026).
So a boys’ coach can’t borrow the girls’ calendar or another state’s. In North Carolina, men’s volleyball practice opens February 15, 2027, with the first contest on March 1 (NCHSAA). In Ohio, the 2027 boys’ season begins March 12 (OHSAA). Both checked October 31, 2026. A South Carolina boys’ team plays in the fall.
When Do High School Volleyball Tryouts Start?
Tryouts start when your state allows the first practice. In Florida, the first official practice and tryout day for the 2026 girls’ season was July 27 (FHSAA). In Ohio, coaching began August 1 (OHSAA). Both checked October 31, 2026.
Your school’s athletic department sets its own tryout days inside that window. Ask your athletic director for them in the spring, because your roster, and so your uniform sizes, follow from tryouts. For a fall team, the approve-by date comes before tryouts in every state in our table that posts a practice date, so order for the players you know. A player added mid-season is priced at the same tier as your team’s original order.
When Should a High School Team Order Volleyball Uniforms?
Approve your design at least 33 days before your first match. Your order is ready 2 to 3 weeks after you approve your design, and shipping to US teams takes 3 to 5 days after production. Count back the top of each range plus a week of margin: 21 days + 5 days + 7 days = 33 days. That spare week covers a late roster change.

In Ohio, about three months. The OHSAA set its 2026 girls’ season from August 17 to the state tournament on November 12 to 14 (checked October 31, 2026). Other states differ by a few weeks: North Carolina set its 2026 girls’ state championships for October 30 and 31 (NCHSAA). Check your own state association’s calendar for your season length.
Who sets high school volleyball season dates?
