Custom Football Cape

Yes — the hood on the Custom Football Cape is intentionally oversized so players can pull it directly over a fitted helmet (Riddell SpeedFlex, Schutt F7, Vicis Zero series, and similar full-cage modern helmets) without removing the helmet first. Players coming off the field stay covered through pre-snap weather without breaking their pre-game routine. The hood depth covers the helmet shell front to back; the side panels drape past the cheek pads. For youth helmets the hood is roomy and can be cinched if needed; for the largest adult shells (XXL with full cage) the fit is snug but functional. Coaches and sideline staff (no helmet) wear the hood in the standard hooded-jacket position.

Velcro is the right closure for a sideline cape because players, coaches, and trainers operate it with gloved hands during cold-weather games. A standard zipper requires fingertip dexterity to grip the pull, align the slider, and start the track — all of which fight cold-weather gloves and tape. Velcro just slaps shut. The Custom Football Cape uses heavy-duty hook-and-loop tape running the full length of the front placket, sealed in 1-2 seconds with a single open hand. The bond holds against wind and brushes against pads without re-opening, but a hard pull releases it cleanly when a player is called back onto the field. Velcro also has no zipper teeth to snag pads, helmets, or chinstraps.

The cape is a cold-and-wet weather piece — typically used at temperatures in the 30s and below, in active rain or snow, or any time wind chill is in play. It goes OVER pads and uniforms because of its knee-length, helmet-fit hood, and velcro front design — players don't have to remove pads to put it on. Pullover hoodies and full-zip hoodies are warmer in dry cold but don't shed water, and they're cut to street-clothing length so they don't reach the thigh pads. Sideline jackets are mid-weight and fine for 40s-50s but give up the helmet-fit hood. Most varsity programs in cold-weather conferences keep all three (cape + hoodie + sideline jacket) and let game-day temperature and forecast pick the piece. The cape is the bench piece for late-season playoff and championship runs.

The Custom Football Capes are decorated with four methods, mixed and matched per design element: sublimation prints unlimited-color graphics directly into the water-resistant polyester shell (no cracking, peeling, or fading); tackle twill sews on heavyweight letter and number panels for school crests and program names; embroidery delivers crisp dimensional team logos and supporter names; and screen printing handles cost-effective single-color graphics across the back panel. The back panel is the largest branding surface — typically used for a bold school crest, program name, or wordmark.
