Athletic shorts are the loose-fit, pocket-ready option for men's programs, co-ed leagues, and youth teams — drawstring waistband, deep side pockets, the practice-and-camp short rather than the match-day short. Poly-spandex compression shorts are the fitted body-conforming option women's programs typically order — tighter cut for unrestricted attack motion, also worn as a visible undergarment under team-color shorts per USAV / NFHS visible-undergarment rules. Competition shorts sit between athletic and compression: not as loose as athletic, not as fitted as compression.

(3) Programs adding shorts to existing jersey runs — teams that bought jerseys from a different supplier and want matching shorts ordered separately. All three patterns trigger reorders of a single pair or a small batch, which is why no-minimum pricing matters here more than on any other piece in the catalog — most reorders are 1-5 pairs, not full team batches.

Competition shorts are built on lightweight ~150 GSM polyester knit with 4-way stretch — the fabric is designed to flex with every dive, lateral cut, and floor save. That's exactly what makes the shorts comfortable through match play, but it's also what makes tackle twill the wrong decoration choice: a stitched-on twill patch sits rigid on a panel that's constantly flexing, and on a small short-leg surface area the patch puckering would show immediately. Embroidery handles the dimensional need without that risk because embroidery threads sit flush in the fabric, not on top of it — a stitched crest on the hip band above the high-flex leg zone holds shape through every match. Sublimation builds the full team colorway and side-panel graphics into the fabric itself; screen printing handles opaque sponsor marks. Tackle twill stays reserved for the stable static-panel garments (jersey backs, hoodie back panels, sweat-pant side stripes) where the fabric doesn't flex with movement.
