The quarter-zip is the warmup layer that adjusts mid-session — open the zip a couple of inches when body heat builds during dynamic stretches, close it again when wind comes off the pitch. A full-zip hoodie strips off completely in seconds (best for match-day warmups where the keeper needs the layer off the moment the whistle blows), the pullover hoodie keeps a closed front for the full warmup window (best for cold travel days and team photos), and the crewneck sweatshirt is the no-hood casual layer for off-pitch and bus rides. Most programs pair the quarter-zip for training and the full-zip for matches.
Both run on ~150 GSM moisture-wicking polyester, but the quarter-zip adds a 6-8 inch placket and stand-up collar that the long-sleeve training shirt doesn't have. The long-sleeve training shirt is the under-layer or warmer-weight session base — players wear it through the full session at a constant temperature. The quarter-zip goes over the training shirt (or directly over a kit) for the pre-game and dynamic warmup window, where you actually need to vent heat without stopping to take a layer off. Sub-30°F cold-field training: quarter-zip on top of the long-sleeve training shirt is the standard layering combo.
The stand collar is reinforced at the seam so it holds its upright shape rather than flopping over after a few washes. Care: cold wash gentle cycle, zip closed before washing to protect the teeth, inside-out helps the sublimation print, air-dry or low-heat tumble. Avoid high-heat drying because that's what shortens both the zipper slider life and the stand-collar memory.
